RECOM has introduced a high-power, medical-grade DC/DC converter with 90% peak efficiency, compact size, and advanced protection features.
RECOM has launched a 60W board-mount DC/DC converter offering high power density and medical-grade isolation. Per the company’s claim, the REM60-W is a cost-effective solution available in two input ranges: 9-36VDC and 18-75VDC. It offers a variety of tightly regulated single and dual outputs, including 5V, 5.1V, 12V, 15V, 24V +/-12V, and +/-15V. Despite its compact size, measuring only 2.3″ x 1.5″ x 0.5″ (57.9 x 36.8 x 12.7mm), this DC/DC converter boasts industry-leading power density for a 60W component. With exceptional efficiency, peaking at over 90%, these converters can operate in ambient temperatures of up to 105°C with derating. For instance, they can sustain a full output power of 60W with 2m/s airflow at a temperature of 83°C.
The company claims that DC/DC converters have obtained various medical safety certifications, enabling their use in North American markets. The series is designed for operation at altitudes of up to 5000m and in a pollution degree 2 (PD2) environment. With a reliability of over 1 Million Hours (1Mhrs) Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) according to Military Handbook 217F (MIL-HDBK-217F) under Ground Benign conditions at 25°C, the series offers high reliability. In medical Type B applied parts, Body Floating (BF), and Cardiac Floating (CF) applications, the maximum patient leakage current is 4.5µA.
According to the company’s press release, the converters feature an On/Off control, remote sense, and output voltage trimming. They protect against over-temperature, output overloads, short circuits, and input under-voltage. Zero-load operation is possible while maintaining high efficiency even under light load conditions. The converters have low quiescent and standby current. Furthermore, they have an industry-standard pin-out for easy integration and compatibility.
“The REM60-W is a high-specification, power-dense part which will be appreciated in medical and demanding industrial applications,” Matthew Dauterive, DC/DC Product Manager at RECOM.
