The eFuse Protection ICs provides robust protection for USB Type-C ports, shielding diverse devices from overvoltage, short circuits, and ESD, combining reliability with advanced features.
Littelfuse Inc., an industrial technology manufacturing company, has launched the LS05006VPQ33, an eFuse Protection ICs. The company claims the IC offers robust protection for USB Type-C ports from short circuits, overvoltage, and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). The eFuse protection ICs are suited for various USB Type-C applications. This includes notebooks, desktops, monitors, industrial Personal Computers (PCs), point-of-sale systems, smartphones, tablets, and USB Type-C Power Delivery (PD) docking stations. The IC is a comprehensive protection solution for Type-C PD Voltage Bus (Vbus) shorts to Channel Configuration/Sideband Use (CC/SBU), supporting up to 28 V and boasting an 8 KV IEC-61000-4-2 ESD capability.
The eFuse Protection ICs address the pressing need to shield low-voltage silicon circuits in USB Type-C controllers from overvoltage, short circuits, and ESD impacts. Many USB Type-C products fall short of the Type-C standard, with some adapters leading to short circuits due to pin defects, twisting, or moisture when they provide only 20 V to Vbus. Such occurrences can jeopardize downstream low-voltage circuits. Beyond enhancing reliability, prolonging lifespan, and reducing repair expenses, ICs stand out in the market. This makes it a nice choice for engineers seeking a dependable USB Type-C port protection mechanism.
Some of the key features and benefits of eFuse Protection ICs include:
- Processes signals automatically.
- Works without interfering with Type-C controllers.
- Four-channel overvoltage protection up to 24 V.
- IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protected.
- 600 mA current for CC1/CC2 overvoltage protection.
- Contains CC1/CC2 pull-down resistors for dead batteries.
- Compact QFN3x3_20L package.
“The LS05006VPQ33 is an extension of the Littelfuse eFuse protection IC solutions, and it is our first eFuse to support 20 V short, overvoltage, and system ESD protection for signal pins,” said Bernie Hsieh, APM of Protection Semiconductor Business at Littelfuse. “The LS05006VPQ33 provides better reliability, longer life, lower repair costs, and compact product size. It also works well with the LS2406ERQ23 eFuse for Vbus 20-volt, 5 amp protection.”
