CATL has launched Shenxing, the world’s first 4C superfast charging Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, which can provide 400 km of driving distance with just a 10-minute charge and over 700 km on a full charge. The company claims it is expected to reduce charging concerns for EV drivers significantly and heralds a new age of ultra-fast EV charging. As battery technology progresses and the overall performance of EV batteries improves, the industry now offers extended driving ranges for electric vehicles (EVs). The primary concern preventing consumers from transitioning to EVs is rapid charging anxiety. Delving deep into the fundamentals of electrochemistry, the company continues its innovations in materials, electrochemistry, and system structures, attaining ultra-fast charging, superior energy density, and optimal safety concurrently in a unique approach. Shenxing redefines the limits of LFP chemistry, setting a new standard of innovation in the battery sector.

Shenxing employs advanced super-electronic network cathode technology and fully nano-crystallized LFP cathode material to form an enhanced electronic network. This facilitates the swift extraction of lithium ions and ensures a rapid response to charging signals. Altering the properties of the graphite surface augments the intercalation channels and reduces the intercalation distance for lithium ions, paving an express route for current conduction. Moreover, the innovative multi-gradient layered electrode design harmoniously blends fast charging with extended range. A new superconducting electrolyte formula has been introduced to decrease the resistance of lithium-ion movement. This formula significantly diminishes the electrolyte’s viscosity, enhancing its conductivity.

Shenxing, in its pursuit of optimizing EV batteries, has gone beyond just achieving 4C superfast charging. Structural innovation and intelligent algorithm integration ensure rapid charging and offer an extended driving range, consistency in charging across varied temperatures, and heightened safety. While Shenxing can charge to 80% State of Charge (SOC) in just 10 minutes at room temperature, its design remains consistent in colder climates. Prioritizing safety, the battery incorporates an upgraded electrolyte and a separator with a superior safety coating. Additionally, by continuously monitoring the temperature inside the cells using smart algorithms, the battery is equipped with a real-time fault detection system that addresses challenges posed by rapid charging, ensuring Shenxing stands out as a paragon of safety in the EV battery realm.
