The MCUs offer a core speed of 480 MHz, integrated flash memory and SRAM, various graphics and peripheral functions, and comprehensive security features.

Renesas Electronics Corporation has introduced the RA8D1 microcontroller (MCU) group, the second in its RA8 Series and the first to be based on the Arm Cortex-M85 processor. These MCUs are designed to deliver exceptional performance of over 6.39 CoreMark/MHz1 with a core speed of 480MHz.

The devices come with a high-resolution graphics LCD controller, a 2D graphics engine and a 16-bit camera interface. They have multiple external memory interfaces, and package options of 176 and 224 pins. The MCUs are optimised for various applications in building automation, home appliances, smart home, consumer, and medical sectors.

The devices have integrated 2MB/1MB Flash memory and 1MB SRAM. The graphics peripherals include a graphics LCD controller capable of supporting up to Wide Extended Graphics Array (1280×800) resolutions, parallel RGB and MIPI-DSI interfaces for external liquid crystal display (LCD), a powerful 2D drawing engine, a 16-bit camera interface (CEU), and a 32-bit external SDRAM interface.

The devices are supported by professional graphics user interface software solutions from SEGGER emWin and Microsoft GUIX, integrated into the Renesas flexible software package (FSP).  This facilitates application development by providing infrastructure software, including real time operating system (RTOS), peripheral drivers, middleware, and reference software. Renesas also supports the open-source light and versatile graphics library (LVGL) and has a robust network of graphics and AI ecosystem partners

The RA8 Series MCUs benefit from the high performance of the Arm Cortex-M85 processor and Arm’s Helium technology, which includes a vector instruction set extension. This technology enhances digital signal processor (DSP) and machine learning (ML) implementations, potentially eliminating the need for separate hardware accelerators in some applications. The series also features advanced security options like Arm TrustZone technology and Renesas security IP.
