Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has launched new blue and true green surface-mount LEDs housed in the ultra-compact MiniLED package. These LEDs, the Vishay Semiconductors VLMB2332T1U2-08 and VLMTG2332ABCA-08, measure just 2.2 mm by 1.3 mm by 1.4 mm. Featuring advanced ultrabright InGaN chip technology, they deliver luminous intensities of 440 mcd and 2300 mcd, respectively—up to four times brighter than the older generation models in PLCC-2 packages.
The LEDs are designed for a variety of users, including medical device manufacturers for therapeutic lighting, fitness tracker producers for heart rate sensors, and smoke detector manufacturers for particle detection. Additionally, they are suitable for signal lights in agricultural and energy equipment, as well as backlighting and indicators in consumer electronics and industrial applications. Their versatility and efficiency make them ideal for environments that demand reliable and robust lighting solutions.

Furthermore, the VLMTG2332ABCA-08, with its typical 525 nm wavelength at 20 mA, is perfectly suited for heart rate monitoring in fitness trackers, utilizing variations in green light absorption. Meanwhile, the VLMB2332T1U2-08, emitting a typical wavelength of 465 nm at 20 mA, is optimized for smoke detectors that detect fine particles through short wavelength blue light.
The LEDs are packaged in a MiniLED format with a lead-frame embedded in a white thermoplastic, ensuring a ±60° angle of half-intensity and a 120° viewing angle for uniform illumination. They operate at a typical forward voltage of 2.9 V and are categorized by luminous intensity and color within each packaging unit.
