Discover how its host/device agnostic operation and customizable configurations cater to diverse needs while adhering to environmental standards.

Diodes Incorporated unveiled the latest addition to its portfolio, the PI5USB212, a USB 2.0 signal conditioner engineered for a supply voltage as low as 2.3V. Targeted at a spectrum of devices, including notebooks, PCs, docking stations, cable extenders, TVs, and monitors, the PI5USB212 seamlessly identifies USB 2.0 high-speed connections. It upholds signal integrity across PCB traces or cables extending up to 5 meters.

This integrated circuit symmetrically amplifies the USB D+ and D– channels for common-mode stability while integrating pre-emphasis to counter intersymbol interference (ISI). Its broad supply voltage range streamlines system design and amplifies the operating window of portable and battery-operated equipment.

Key features include:

  • Low Power Consumption in Disconnect and Shutdown Modes, enhancing energy efficiency
  • Symmetric Boost/Pre-emphasis on D+/D- channels promotes stable common-mode operation
  • Facilitates seamless device attachment and high-speed detections
  • ESD Performance ratings of 2KV HBM and 1KV CDM ensure reliable operation in diverse environments
  • Manufactured to be lead-free and fully compliant with RoHS regulations, aligning with environmental standards

Configurable through either I2C commands or pin strapping, the device adjusts signal-boost and ISI-compensation levels. With two control pins (boost/SEN), the boost pin’s manipulation via various resistors governs the AC gain/pre-emphasis levels. Additionally, the SEN pin selects high, low, or medium receiver sensitivity (DC gain) to optimize signal integrity, contingent upon channel conditions. It autonomously identifies low-speed (LS) mode/full-speed (FS) connections, avoiding unnecessary signal compensation.

It supports USB 2.0, OTG 2.0, and battery-charging (BC) 1.2 standards, boasting features such as device-attach and high-speed detection, along with a 5.5V tolerance. It dynamically conserves energy by reducing supply current to 0.7mA (typical) when no USB attachment is detected, plummeting further to 13µA (typical) when disabled via the RSTN disable pin.

It operates as both host or device agnostic, providing versatility in its applications. With programmable boost/pre-emphasis levels and receiver sensitivity via either Pin Mode or I2C Mode, it allows for customizable configurations. Supporting cable lengths of up to 5 meters, it accommodates diverse setup requirements. It is manufactured without halogen and antimony, aligning with environmentally friendly practices. Housed in a 12-pin, 1.6mm x 1.6mm, quad flat no-lead (QFN) package, it is available at $2.70 in quantities of 3,500.
