We are seeking an experienced Hardware Engineer to join our expanding Systems and Solutions Marketing team. You will work on a mixture of system definition/design and supporting test hardware The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in PCB design and experience in prototyping comprehensive systems that integrate power, analogue, sensor, digital and electromechanical components. A good knowledge of power management (AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC power conversion systems) and the ability to contribute to system design and conception is strongly desirable. He or she will be able to design a complete system from concept through proof-of-concept development. Initiative, self-motivation, and exceptional communication skills are paramount for the success of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to work on a mixture of system definition/design and supporting test hardware.
  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of complex power electronics hardware, including power converters, MCUs, sensors, analogue components, and electromechanical parts.
  • Translate high-level system requirements into detailed schematics, PCB layouts, and bill-of-material (BOM) selection to support proof-of-concept execution.
  • Apply advanced understanding of power conversion topologies, magnetics, control theory, and power devices to optimize designs for electrical performance, efficiency, compactness, and manufacturability.
  • Perform board-level thermal, signal/power integrity, EMC/EMI simulations, to refine designs before the prototype phase, ensuring the highest quality of output.
  • Ability to break-down activities in sub-tasks and milestones to adhere to timelines and to respect budget constraints.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware components with other system parts, facilitating a cohesive and functional product.
  • Lead the evaluation, troubleshooting, and debugging of hardware prototypes. Identify the root causes of failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of technical documentation. Release and sustain system board designs on the Altium platform to support design reuse and standardization.

Qualifications

  • Qualification in electronics engineering or comparable discipline
  • 12+ years experience in hardware system design and physical prototype validation, specifically in power electronics.
  • Experience in system level and sub-system integration and debug.
  • Sound knowledge of power conversion topologies, magnetics, control theory and power devices.
  • In-depth knowledge of PCB layout techniques in power electronics, and mitigation of the problems/challenges arising in high-power and multi-domain environments.
  • Proficient with simulations and CAD tools (MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, SIMPLIS…)
  • Proficient with PCB design and simulation tools (eg Altium, Ansys…).
  • Experience in taking system designs from concept to proof of concept.
  • Good understanding of power electronics components (including silicon-based IGBTs, MOSFETs and Wide Bandgap technologies) and their driving.
  • Knowledge of electrical machines and motor drive would be a plus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of medium power (up to several hundreds of kW) and medium voltage (up to >1kV) and related safety issues in testing a prototype in high voltage environment would be a plus.
  • Thermal design experience (loss calculations, simulations and cooling unit specifications).
  • Understanding of EMC/EMI mitigation techniques.
  • Good project management skills and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
