The wireless charging boards from STMicroelectronics enhance efficiency in medical, industrial, and smart-home applications with high-power capabilities.
STMicroelectronics has launched a 50W, Qi-compatible transmitter and receiver set designed to enhance wireless charging in high-power applications, including medical devices, industrial equipment, and consumer electronics such as home appliances and computer peripherals.
This transmitter and receiver set allows developers to integrate wireless charging into devices that require higher power output and quicker charging times. Examples of applications include cordless vacuum cleaners, power tools, drones, medical drug delivery systems, portable ultrasound devices, stage and mobile lighting, as well as printers and scanners. This technology eliminates the need for physical cables and complex docking systems, leading to simpler, cost-effective, and durable products.
The STEVAL-WBC2TX50 transmitter board delivers up to 50W using ST’s Super Charge (STSC) protocol, exceeding standard wireless charging rates to recharge large batteries. It also supports Qi 1.3 5W Baseline Power Profile (BPP) and 15W Extended Power Profile (EPP). Key components include the STWBC2-HP system-in-package which features an STM32G071 Arm Cortex-M0 microcontroller and a specialized front end for signal conditioning, frequency control, and a PWM generator. It supports a DC voltage range from 4.1V to 24V, includes MOSFET gate drivers, and a USB Power Delivery interface. The STWBC2-HP can also be paired with the STSAFE-A110 secure element for Qi authentication.
The STEVAL-WLC98RX receiver board, capable of managing up to 50W, supports both the STSC protocol and standard Qi profiles. It features Adaptive Rectifier Configuration (ARC) to enhance charging distance by up to 50%, enabling economical coils and versatile setups. It includes voltage and current monitoring for Foreign Object Detection (FOD), thermal management, and system protection. This board incorporates the STWLC98 IC, which integrates a Cortex-M3 core and a synchronous-rectifier power stage with adjustable output up to 20V.
STMicroelectronics provides software tools—STSW-WPSTUDIO for the receiver and STSW-WBC2STUDIO for the transmitter—to customize device settings for specific applications.
