Same Sky’s Interconnect Group has introduced waterproof and power-only models to its USB Type C connector line, catering to moisture-sensitive environments and high-power applications.
The UJ series of connectors now includes USB receptacles with waterproof ratings ranging from IPX5 to IPX8, making them suitable for devices used in damp or wet conditions. These models offer enhanced durability and reliability, ensuring safe and efficient power connections even in challenging environments. Additionally, the range introduces 90 W power-only USB Type C receptacles, including IPX5-rated options, offering a cost-effective solution by eliminating data transfer pins where charging is the primary function.
Designed for consumer and portable electronics, particularly in sectors like outdoor gadgets, industrial equipment, and automotive systems, these connectors serve users who require durable and reliable power connections in environments prone to moisture. The power-only models are especially valuable for manufacturers prioritizing efficient charging solutions over data transfer capabilities.
The latest power-only connectors reduce complexity and cost in designs where data transfer isn’t required. Outside of these, the expansion also features USB 2.0 and USB 3.2 Gen 1 models, which provide up to 240 W power delivery at 48 V and 5 A, catering to high-power needs in modern electronics.
Available in both horizontal and vertical surface mount packages, the USB connectors are built to withstand up to 10,000 mating cycles, offering reliability and longevity in demanding environments. They are capable of operating in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 85°C, meeting the requirements of diverse applications. Many of these models are reflow solder compatible, utilizing UV-glued O-rings that can withstand the high temperatures associated with soldering processes.
