Infineon Technologies has introduced the Automotive PSoC Multitouch GEN8XL, a touch controller designed for large OLED and micro-LED displays, addressing the demand for seamless user experiences in automotive infotainment systems.

Infineon introduces the Automotive PSoC Multitouch GEN8XL (IAAT818X), a new generation of touch controllers.

Infineon’s latest touch controller supports screens up to 24 inches, ensuring superior performance and high frame rates. The GEN8XL controller is built to enhance Human-Machine Interface (HMI) experiences while meeting stringent automotive standards. It is compliant with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) regulations, ensuring minimal interference and reliable performance.

The primary audience for this product includes automotive manufacturers and suppliers looking to integrate advanced, reliable touch-based interfaces into next-generation vehicles. Given the increasing demand for more interactive infotainment systems, the GEN8XL provides a valuable solution for designers and engineers working on high-end car models that feature OLED and micro-LED displays. Its scalability and additional features, like rotary dials and built-in haptics, make it an attractive choice for luxury and electric vehicles, where cutting-edge technology is expected.

Designed specifically for automotive applications, the PSoC Multitouch GEN8XL is AEC-Q100 qualified and meets Auto-SPICE level 3 and ASIL-B safety requirements. It comes in two package sizes: 128-pin and 100-pin TQFP. The controller performs effectively under challenging conditions such as condensation, water droplets, or even while the user is wearing gloves up to 4mm thick. Its scalability allows it to support even larger screens, up to 55 inches, through a multi-chip architecture.

The touch controller also integrates additional features like rotary dials and built-in haptics, enhancing functionality for more complex interfaces. This combination of advanced touch capability and flexibility makes the GEN8XL an ideal solution for futuristic automotive displays. The company offers comprehensive support for integration, including application firmware, sensor design guidance, and a touch tuning host emulator (TTHE) to simplify production.

According to manufacturers, the PSoC Multitouch GEN8XL will be available for production in Q4 2025, with samples currently available. This innovation marks a significant step in the automotive industry’s transition to OLED and micro-LED technology, ensuring the highest standards of user experience and safety.
