STMicroelectronics has developed Page EEPROM, a unique memory solution blending Flash memory’s capacity and speed with EEPROM’s energy efficiency and durability.

New best-of-both memory combines serial Flash speed and density with EEPROM byte level flexibility.

Page EEPROM designed in France, addresses the high-density memory demands essential for data-intensive edge AI functions and the growing need for compact, durable memory. This hybrid memory supports developers creating sophisticated applications in fields like medical devices, e-bikes, asset tracking, and industrial IoT solutions. By combining storage density with ultra-low power usage, it can efficiently support IoT and edge AI, reducing device size and enhancing operational efficiency. Philippe Ganivet, product line manager, STMicroelectronics, noted, “The intelligent edge has evolved quickly and is profoundly changing demands on embedded memory storage density, performance, and power consumption.”

The new memory solution offers densities of 8Mbit, 16Mbit, and 32Mbit, greatly enhancing storage over standard memory devices. Its flexibility allows byte-level write operations, page/sector/block erase, and firmware over-the-air (OTA) updates, providing users greater ease in manufacturing processes. Patrick Kusbel, owner, BitFlip Engineering, an early adopter, highlighted latest innovation’s impact on IoT applications, saying, “ST’s Page EEPROM is the perfect non-volatile memory, a true best-of-both-worlds solution that enabled us to achieve the ambitious targets we set…for GPS trackers, IoT devices, and all other designs where high performance, high reliability, small size, and low power are required.”

Additionally, this memory solution features peak-current control, reducing power supply noise, extending battery life, and ensuring a read speed of 320 Mbit/s—16 times faster than conventional memory devices. With a write-cycle endurance of 500,000 cycles and 100-year data retention, the new device supports long-term reliability and is covered by ST’s 10-year longevity program.

The M95P08, M95P16, and M95P32 models are now in production. ST’s X-NUCLEO-PGEEZ1 expansion board and X-CUBE-EEPRMA1 software package are available for developers to explore Page EEPROM’s hybrid capabilities and accelerate application development.
