Murata Manufacturing, Japan has developed the ‘PQC600’, a high-efficiency open-frame AC to DC power supply aimed at addressing critical power requirements in medical and industrial sectors. The innovative design ensures dependable performance in applications like hospital beds, dentist chairs, and industrial machinery, adhering to stringent international safety standards.

Engineered with a focus on compactness and efficiency, it provides 600W of power within a package less than 1U in height, ensuring high power density. It meets IEC 60601-1 edition 3 medical safety standards, offering two means of patient protection (MOPP) from primary to secondary, along with additional MOPP safeguards. Its compliance with IEC 60601-1-2 4th edition EMC standards guarantees robust electromagnetic compatibility, making it suitable for medical devices with Type B or Type BF applied parts.

The newly developed power supply’s cutting-edge design incorporates Murata Power Solutions (MPS) proprietary transformer technology and optimised layout. Targeted at manufacturers and developers in the healthcare and industrial automation sectors, the power supply addresses the need for reliable, efficient, and scalable solutions in critical applications. Its compact form factor makes it particularly appealing for equipment designers working with space constraints, ensuring seamless integration into advanced systems.

This innovative power supply achieves an impressive 95% efficiency at full load under forced-air cooling conditions. “Murata remains at the forefront of power supply innovation, creating denser and more efficient designs,” said Tony Sharp, director product marketing, Murata. A standout feature of this power supply is its droop current sharing capability, enabling multiple units to operate in parallel for increased power scalability. Additionally, it utilises interleaved power factor correction (PFC) and synchronous rectification for superior thermal management.

Murata’s latest development exemplifies the company’s commitment to advancing power supply technology. By addressing the growing demands for compact and efficient solutions, it is poised to support next-generation medical and industrial equipment with unparalleled reliability and safety.
