Panasonic Industry has launched PhotoMOS relay in a compact wafer scale small outline package (WSSOP) package, engineered for measurement, test, and medical devices. Known as AQY231R1WY (1Y), this relay from the low capacitance (C)× resistance (R) PhotoMOS HS series boasts a highly optimised product of C and R for its output MOSFETs, operating at 40V and 350mA with a 1FormA contact arrangement.

MOSFET relays have become indispensable in industries requiring high-speed, efficient, and reliable solutions. The company’s latest innovation addresses these needs by combining advanced functionality with resource-saving design, ensuring its utility in diverse applications. Target users for this product include manufacturers and engineers working in fields such as semiconductor testing, medical imaging, and electronic measurement, where compact, efficient, and reliable components are paramount.

The miniature WSSOP package achieves an 89% reduction in mounting area compared to conventional relays, promoting equipment miniaturisation. This development provides manufacturers with cost-effective solutions while enhancing resource efficiency.

Designed for high-temperature environments, the relay operates reliably at up to +125°C, outperforming traditional counterparts limited to +85°C. Such capabilities make it ideal for demanding applications, including semiconductor testers and burn-in testers.

In terms of energy efficiency, the WSSOP relay requires a mere 1.0mA of operating current—just one-third of what conventional models demand. This feature significantly contributes to energy savings for modern equipment.

“With the new PhotoMOS relay, we have developed a product for our customers that offers a unique, miniature design without compromising performance,” stated Chaithra Bhat Beedubail, product manager, Panasonic Industry, Europe. “The relay is particularly suitable for applications such as IC testers, board testers, probe cards, and medical equipment including X-ray machines and ultrasonics.”

The device’s high-speed operation, with a typical turn-on time of 0.025ms and turn-off time of 0.15ms, further enhances its appeal. Its superior high-frequency characteristics ensure seamless transmission up to ~10GHz with minimal insertion loss.

This innovative relay underscores the company’s commitment to delivering reliable and efficient solutions for modern industrial challenges, offering unmatched versatility in a compact form.
