The RPX series of DC/DC converters from RECOM RPX now meets the AEC-Q100 Grade 1 requirement, making it more secure and reliable for automotive applications. The new converters come in a QFN package and include ‘wettable flanks’ for Automated Optical Inspection (AOI). The series includes RPX-0.5Q and RPX-1.5Q DC/DCs which have an input range up to 36V, and the output can be trimmed from 0.8V to 30V. The modules require low external components and offer low EMI and fixed frequency operations.
According to the company, the RPX series integrates the necessary inductor and requires just external input and output capacitors, scaled for the customer’s application, for full functionality. On/off control and synchronization inputs are provided with a power-good output. Soft start along with full short circuit, over-current, over-temperature, and input under-voltage protection is included. Due to the FCOL construction, EMI is low, and fixed-frequency operation makes any required additional filtering easy to implement.
The RPX series includes RPX-0.5Q and RPX-1.5Q DC/DCs with an input range up to 36V, and the output can be trimmed from 0.8V to 30V. While the RPX-0.5Q variant can deliver 0.5A, the RPX-1.5Q can deliver up to 1.5A of current. Both the chips come in a tiny 3 x 5 x 1.6mm leadless, thermally-enhanced QFN package, which is capable of operating at well over 100°C ambient with derating. This is made possible by state-of-the-art integration and advanced 3D packaging techniques using an over-moulded Flip Chip on Leadframe (FCOL) construction to provide the lowest package thermal resistance while keeping manufacturing and end-product pricing low. The RPX series also offers protection features such as soft start along with full short circuit, over-current, over-temperature, and input under-voltage protection. Furthermore, it offers On/off control and synchronization inputs are provided with a power-good output.
Matthew Dauterive, DC/DC Product Manager of RECOM comments, “The success of our RPX range has spurred us on to further qualify them to automotive standards. This gives our customers extra confidence that they can also be used in other application areas such as industrial or ATE, with high reliability.”
