2016: The Year of “More Than Moore”

So, in summary, these are the two trends to watch when it comes to advanced designs: 1) a variety of 3D technology, especially at a consumer price point, and 2) the fragmentation of design starts across a wide range of process nodes. We are clearly entering new territory with a lot more options than just the old rule of, “always create the design using the latest node available.” As stated earlier, this puts a big premium on getting the system architecture right and being able to explore the available options effectively—creating a design concurrently from advanced architecture, packaging, and software all the way down to the transistors. In other words, we’ll see the focus on System Design Enablement.


Chi-Ping Hsu is senior vice president and chief strategy officer for EDA products and technologies at Cadence Design Systems, Inc. In this role, Hsu advises the CEO on EDA growth strategy and on matters that require a global EDA view. Hsu also advises the CEO on business operations and provides direct leadership, coordination, and oversight in the development of key strategic initiatives and coherency across business group strategies, including Cadence’s pioneering strategic initiatives in low-power, mixed-signal, advanced node design, and 3DIC.
