Description
This entry-level/early career professional position focuses on tailoring electronic and electrical systems for Cummins products. The role involves translating product requirements into hardware and software technical specifications, configuring (tuning), and completing comprehensive validation testing of fully integrated hardware and software systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate electronic application and systems problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate actions, and document results with guidance.
- Support the improvement of electronic application and systems development processes, including system specification, modeling and simulation, calibration, DVP&R, and troubleshooting.
- Utilize tools for simulation, calibration, and product life maintenance.
- Obtain input from customers, technical and product teams, manufacturing engineers, supplier partners, and other stakeholders to deliver information and recommendations leading to quality product decisions.
- Make decisions in electronic and electrical system design, requirements, calibration, and testing that impact the quality and performance of calibrated features and/or components.
- Resolve moderately complex problems for components, products, systems, subsystems, or services with increasing technical complexity.
- Provide independent execution of established work processes and systems while still developing technology or product knowledge.
- Contribute effectively toward team goals, exhibit influence within a workgroup, and continue to develop proficiency in critical competency areas.
- Preferred knowledge of MS Office tools.
Competencies
- Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems: Specify electronic hardware and interconnections that measure and control systems; apply electronic hardware and interconnections in Cummins’ products.
- Machine Integration and Optimization: Combine parts or sub-systems into a whole to achieve desired customer output, apply installation requirements, and analyze technical issues for rapid resolution.
- Product Failure Mode Avoidance: Mitigate potential product failure modes by identifying interfaces, functions, requirements, and prioritized potential failure modes and causes.
- Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis: Utilize computational tools and methods to predict product capability relative to system, sub-system, and component level requirements.
- Product Problem Solving: Solve product problems using a process that protects the customer, determines the assignable cause, implements data-based solutions, and identifies systemic root causes to prevent recurrence.
- Product Verification and Validation Management: Develop validation plans to identify failure modes, manage product risk, negotiate requirements, and evaluate test results to verify product capability.
- System Requirements Engineering: Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements, establish acceptance criteria, track requirements status, and assess the impact of changes on project scope.
- Systems Thinking: Define the system of interest, identify its context and interactions, and analyze linkages to predict behavior and devise modifications for desired effects.
- Collaboration: Build partnerships and work collaboratively to meet shared objectives.
- Effective Communication: Develop and deliver communications that convey a clear understanding of unique audience needs.
- Decision Quality: Make good and timely decisions to keep the organization moving forward.
- Results-Driven: Consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances.
- Self-Development: Actively seek new ways to grow and be challenged using both formal and informal development channels.
- Value Differences: Recognize the value that different perspectives and cultures bring to an organization.
- Statistical Methods Application: Analyze technical data using statistical methods to make rigorous, data-based decisions.
- Cross-Functional Design Integration: Translate value package requirements into virtual designs and communicate design capability through cross-functional reviews.
- Technical Documentation: Document technical function activities to enable improved productivity and knowledge transfer.
- Product Development Execution: Plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute product development activities, monitor project resource and quality expectations, and ensure product capability.
- Design and Application of Open/Closed Loop Controls: Specify software features interacting with various systems, configure open/closed loop feedback controls, and understand system interactions in Cummins’ products.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
- College, university, or equivalent bachelor’s degree in engineering or appropriate STEM field.
- Post-graduate (Master’s) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
