The 700V transistors improve power conversion, boost performance by 20%, cut losses, and offer cost-effective solutions.

Transistors

Infineon Technologies AG has launched the CoolGaN Transistor 700 V G4 product family. These devices offer high efficiency for power conversion up to 700 V. Unlike other GaN products, these transistors deliver 20 per cent improved performance metrics, leading to enhanced efficiency, reduced power losses, and more economical solutions. Their superior electrical characteristics and packaging ensure optimal performance across various applications, including consumer chargers, notebook adapters, data centre power supplies, renewable energy inverters, and battery storage.

These transistors are particularly useful for consumer electronics manufacturers in creating efficient chargers and adapters for smartphones and laptops. Data centre operators can incorporate these devices into their power supply systems to boost efficiency and reduce power losses—essential in high-energy-use environments. Renewable energy engineers can employ these transistors in systems such as solar inverters and wind turbines to optimise power conversion efficiency. They also play a crucial role in battery storage solutions, aiding in effective power management for residential and grid-scale systems. Industries requiring durable power supplies for machinery and other equipment will benefit from the robust capabilities of these transistors. Power system designers and engineers will find these devices indispensable for high-voltage and efficient power conversion applications, making them versatile for numerous demanding scenarios.

The product line comprises 13 devices rated at 700 V and featuring on-resistance from 20 mΩ to 315 mΩ. This variety, coupled with several industry-standard packaging options such as PDFN, TOLL, and TOLT, enables precise selection tailored to specific application requirements, optimising electrical and thermal system performance cost-effectively.

These devices boast fast switching speeds and minimal losses. The on-resistance range allows for power systems ranging from 20 W to 25,000 W. Moreover, the 700 V E-mode’s leading transient voltage of 850 V significantly enhances system reliability by providing added robustness against voltage spikes and other environmental irregularities.
