Onsemi has introduced an end-to-end positioning system that facilitates precise and power-efficient asset tracking.
Onsemi, a leader in intelligent power and sensing technologies, has launched an end-to-end positioning system that the company claims facilitates simpler and faster development of asset-tracking solutions that are more accurate, cost-effective, and energy-efficient. The system is based on the company’s RSL15 microcontroller unit (MCU), which claims to be the industry’s most power-efficient Bluetooth 5.2 MCU. It is specifically designed to cater to the needs of industrial and medical sectors, particularly in the realm of connected smart devices. With its integrated power management, versatile general-purpose input/output (GPIO), clocking scheme, and comprehensive array of peripherals, the MCU provides exceptional design flexibility for high-performance and energy-efficient applications. The company claims the system has advanced features and is highly suitable for diverse industrial automation applications, including asset tracking, smart retail, and IoT edge nodes.
The MCU incorporates 80 kB random access memory (RAM) and is available with either 284 kB or 512 kB Flash options. According to the company’s claim, the MCU excels in accuracy, enabling extended range, higher data transmissions, and precise localization capabilities using Angle of Arrival (AoA) and Angle of Departure (AoD) techniques. Its power efficiency is enhanced by company’s smart sensing feature, which allows the Arm Cortex M33 processor to enter deep sleep mode while continuously monitoring sensor interfaces. In terms of security, the system is designed with Arm TrustZone and Arm CryptoCell-312 technology, establishing a device’s root of trust and ensuring the authenticity, integrity, and confidentiality of code and data. With Platform Security Architecture (PSA) Level 1 certification, this design enhances the security measures already offered in the Bluetooth protocol for assurance at both the data and application levels.
Some of the electrical specifications of the device include:
- Data Transmission Standard: Bluetooth Low Energy
- Frequency Band (MHz): 2400-2480
- MSL Type: 3
- MSL Temp (°C): 260
- Container Type: REEL
- Container Qty.: 1500
The press release highlights that the latest Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) solution empowers the utilization of tags to track objects or individuals with sub-meter accuracy within specific enclosed areas like warehouses, stores, or buildings.
