Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced the TANTAMOUNT TX3 series, a new line of surface-mount solid tantalum moulded chip capacitors designed for electronic detonation systems. These capacitors feature a robust design with low leakage current (DCL) and stringent testing, offering better performance and reliability than commercial tantalum capacitors and MLCCs.

Due to their reliable performance and low leakage current, the TX3 series capacitors are suitable for professionals in the mining and demolition sectors, engineers, and manufacturers of battery-powered remote or wireless detonation systems.

With low DCL values of 0.005CV and the high energy density of tantalum, the TX3 series capacitors deliver more energy for reliable ignition, making them ideal for remote detonation systems in mining and demolition applications. The tantalum anode technology, combined with Vishay’s dielectric formation, ensures stable performance in harsh environments.

Each TX3 series capacitor undergoes extensive testing beyond commercial standards to ensure reliability. Every part is 100% surge current tested and subjected to additional screenings for electrical characteristics to eliminate variations. The capacitors are encapsulated in plastic resin, providing high shock and vibration capabilities according to MIL-STD-202 standards.

Some of the electrical characteristics of the TX3 series include:

  • Operating Temperature: -55 °C to +125 °C
  • Capacitance Range: 10 μF to 100 μF
  • Capacitance Tolerance: ± 10 %, ± 20 %
  • 100 % Surge Current Tested
  • Voltage Rating: 16 VDC to 25 V DC\

Available in B (EIA 3528-21) and C (EIA 6032-28) case sizes, the TX3 series offers a capacitance range from 10 µF to 100 µF, voltage ratings from 16 V to 25 V, and a capacitance tolerance down to ±10%. They provide ESR from 0.700 Ω to 2.3 Ω at +25 °C, ripple current up to 0.438 A, and high-temperature operation up to +125 °C. Featuring lead (Pb)-free terminations, the TX3 series is RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green.
