A multiprotocol System-on-Chip (SoC) for IoT applications, equipped with efficient processors tailored for wireless designs.

nRF54H20

Nordic Semiconductor has launched nRF54H20 multiprotocol System-on-Chip (SoC), showcasing world-leading processing efficiency and exceptional performance. The SoC promises to unlock possibilities in IoT product development. The processor’s prowess is validated through EEMBC ULPMark-CoreMark (ULPMark-CM) benchmarks, which assess its performance and efficiency using CoreMark as the workload.

The nRF54H20 SoC incorporates multiple Arm Cortex-M33 processors and RISC-V coprocessors, each optimized for specific workloads. The SoC promises to disrupt the market by offering the proven capabilities of an application processor designed for robust processing while minimizing power consumption. Additionally, other processors within the SoC can further enhance its application processing capabilities, resulting in superior processing performance. This level of processing power consolidation in a single low-power wireless SoC introduces a novel approach to IoT product design. It eliminates the need for a separate general-purpose MCU and an additional wireless SoC, replacing them with a single, compact SoC. This integration leads to IoT end-products that consume less energy, have a smaller footprint, and simplify development.

The SoC’s performance in the EEMBC benchmarks encourages developers to work on processor-intensive wireless designs. These results are vital for wireless SoCs that can efficiently handle data processing and rapid responses, which is crucial for battery-powered IoT devices in industrial automation and healthcare monitoring. This processing efficiency and performance benefit applications like wearables, smart home devices, and devices using machine learning, edge processing, or sensor fusion.

“The results are remarkable,” says Svein-Egil Nielsen, Nordic’s CTO and EVP of R&D. “Nordic has consistently set the standard for ultra-low power. We’re establishing a new industry norm by delivering world-leading processing efficiency and unmatched processing power. The nRF54H20 is our fourth-generation product series. With it, we aim to redefine processing power and energy efficiency. We’re eager to see what Nordic’s customers can create with these wireless solutions.”
