Dual Space Efficiency Achieved with Combined bipolar junction transistor and Resistors in Sleek DFN2020(D)-6 Packaging.

Nexperia has launched a series of 500 mA dual resistor-equipped transistors (RET) housed in the ultra-compact DFN2020(D)-6 packaging. These RETs are engineered predominantly for load switching in wearables, smartphones, and digital circuits with elevated power demands in computing, communications, industrial, and automotive sectors. The hallmark of this release is the RET’s dual space-saving approach. By cleverly merging the bipolar junction transistor (BJT) and resistor within a single package, it offers significant board space conservation. The very nature of the leadless DFN packaging furthers this spatial efficiency.

The key features include:

  • Resistance ratio tolerance of ± 10%.
  • Built-in bias resistors ensure reduced component count.
  • Output current capabilities range from 100 mA, 500 mA to 600 mA, streamlining circuit design.
  • Potential applications include controlling IC inputs, digital systems, and switching loads.

These twelve RETs integrate dual BJTs and bias resistors. An additional integrated resistor is parallel to the base emitter, forming a voltage divider to adjust the base voltage. Such a design enhances tuning and promotes optimal turn-off traits. Given these internal resistors have a higher tolerance than their external counterparts, RETs aptly fit switching endeavours, effectively navigating the temperature sensitivity of standard BJTs and curbing pick and place costs.

Diverse Configurations and Superior Performance

The new RETs come in varied combinations: dual NPN/NPN, NPN/PNP, and PNP/PNP. Setting them apart, Nexperia’s RETs provide the promised 500 mA output even in their minuscule 2 mm x 2 mm x 0.65 mm DFN2020(D)-6 packaging, ensuring superior thermal management essential for high-power tasks, with a capacity to provide up to 1 W output from collector-emitter voltages up to 50 V. Rounding off their offering, RET lineup spans over 400 products, covering both single and dual RETs in multiple resistor combos. These are available in DFN and led SMD packages, ensuring a fit for diverse applications, including standard and automotive-grade parts.
