CostEffective Wirewound Inductors Offer Saturation Currents to 14 A, Inductance to 1 mH, and 40 % Lower DCR Than PreviousGeneration Devices.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has expanded its IFDC and IFSC series of wire wound, surfacemount ferrite inductors with three new devices: the IFDC5050HZ, IFSC2020DE01, and IFSC3232DB01. These new inductors, available in 2020DE, 3232DB, and 5050HZ case sizes, offer improved performance and cost efficiency compared to previousgeneration ferrite solutions.  The inductors now feature higher inductance and current ratings along with lower DCR, making them suitable for computer and consumer applications. While most highperformance inductors offer a maximum inductance of 100 µH, the new devices achieve higher values: 470 µH for the IFSC2020DE01 and IFSC3232DB01, and 1 mH for the IFDC5050HZ.

The key features include:

  •  New models match the performance of earlier ferrite solutions but are 60% smaller.
  •  Operate at higher temperatures up to +125°C.
  •  Support operating voltages of 120V.
  •  IFSC2020DE01 and IFSC3232DB01 have 40% lower DCR.
  •  IFDC5050HZ can handle saturation currents up to 14A.

These inductors are manufactured using efficient techniques and a simple bobbin style wirewound construction, providing a costeffective alternative to IHLP inductor technology without compromising quality and reliability. The low loss ferrite core construction and low DCR enhance the efficiency of these inductors, making them suitable for use as energy storage inductors in various DC/DC conversion topologies in consumer electronics and batterypowered devices. They also serve as costeffective solutions in differential LC filter topologies for noise suppression on power lines.

The IFDC5050HZ, with its coil enclosed in an exterior magnetic material, minimizes EMI and crosstalk to nearby components. These technologies are utilized in various applications, including DC/DC power supplies, LCD displays, and noise suppression and filtering. Samples and production quantities of the IFSC and IFDC inductors are available now, with lead times of 10 to 12 weeks.
