Compact Power Inductors With Smaller Footprint

Ideal for automotive and commercial applications, these inductors support high temperatures, reduce DC resistance, and enhance reliability with advanced shielding.

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced two new power inductors in the compact 1008 case size (2.5 mm x 2.0 mm x 1.2 mm SMD package): the commercial-grade IHLL-1008AB-1Z and the Automotive-Grade IHLP-1008ABEZ-5A. These inductors provide the same performance as the next-smallest IHLP inductors but in a 55% smaller footprint. They support higher operating temperatures up to +165 °C, offer a wider range of inductance values, and have lower DC resistance (DCR).

  • Inductance values from 0.33 µH to 4.7 µH 
  • Features bottom-only terminal plating
  • Allows smaller land pattern and more compact board designs. 
  • Handles high transient current spikes without saturation
  • Magnetically shielded composite construction

Features of IHLP-1008ABEZ-5A

  • Has terminals plated on both the bottom and sides
  • Enables a solder fillet for stronger mounting and easier solder joint inspection.
  • AEC-Q200-qualified
  • Typical DCR as low as 12.0 mΩ, 15% lower than similar inductors.

Both inductors outperform ferrite-based technologies due to their robust powdered iron construction, which encapsulates the windings and provides magnetic shielding against crosstalk. Their flat wire coil design ensures low DCR and high current handling, while eliminating the need for a lead frame. A laser stripping and electrode plating process ensures optimal solderability and long-term reliability through thermal cycling.

These inductors are ideal for various applications. The 5A is suited for automotive systems such as infotainment, ADAS, LiDAR, and engine control units. The 1Z is perfect for CPUs, SSD modules, telecom equipment, and consumer electronics like TVs and audio systems. Both devices feature a shielded, composite construction that minimizes noise and withstands mechanical and thermal shocks. They are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green. Samples and production quantities are available now, with a 10-week lead time.
