AAEON introduces a single board computer which is slimmer and feature-rich for modern developer needs.
AAEON, Japan’s UP brand has introduced the ‘UP710S’, a next-generation single-board computer (SBC) that modernises its iconic predecessor while preserving its compact, credit-card-sized form factor. Designed for industrial and space-constrained applications, it measures just 85mm x 56mm with a reduced height of 25.13mm, making it more versatile without compromising essential functionalities.
Despite its slim design, it maintains key I/O features like GPIO, I2C, SPI, and COM, previously accessible via a 40-pin HAT. This ensures that developers retain the board’s hallmark connectivity options while benefiting from enhanced features. Among its significant upgrades, the newly developed SBC now supports Wi-Fi via an M.2 2230 E-Key slot, eliminating the need for additional hardware and reflecting the UP Community’s feedback-driven approach.
Another standout feature is the inclusion of an RS-232/422/485 connector, marking the first time such serial communication support has been integrated into a company’s credit-card-sized boards. The board also offers modern connectivity options, including three USB Type-A ports with USB3.2 Gen 2 support, a gigabit Ethernet port, and an HDMI output, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of industrial and IoT applications.
Powered by Intel processor N-series SoCs, including the N97 and N200, the SBC offers robust processing capabilities. It comes equipped with 8GB of soldered LPDDR5 memory and 128GB of eMMC storage, ensuring reliable performance for demanding tasks. Furthermore, the board supports multiple operating systems, including Windows 10, Windows 11, Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, and Yocto 5.1, providing flexibility for developers across diverse projects.
“The motivation behind the UP710S was to show UP customers that we truly value their feedback and work hard to design our products according to their project needs,” said Irene Lin, Senior Product Manager, UP. By blending modern features with its original vision of fostering innovation, the SBC continues the legacy of the UP brand.
