The industry’s first embedded SIM (eSIM) compliant with the new GSMA standard SGP.32 for IoT deployments.
STMicroelectronics has launched the ST4SIM-300, the industry’s first embedded SIM (eSIM) to comply with the forthcoming GSMA standard for IoT deployment, known as SGP.32. This new standard introduces features tailored for managing IoT devices connected to cellular networks.
The new eSIM standard, SGP.32, addresses the specific needs of modern IoT deployments, unlike existing eSIM specifications for machine-to-machine (M2M) and consumer applications. It includes advanced features eliminating the need for physical SIM card changes. It also conforms to the latest 5G standards, facilitating the deployment of devices with limited user interfaces and low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) devices.
The key features include:
- Enhanced automation of Remote SIM Provisioning (RSP)
- Simplified management of SIM profiles for large fleets of devices
- eamless remote switching between network providers
The company is currently sampling the eSIMs in various form factors, including wafer-level chip-scale packages (WLCSP), making them suitable for a range of applications such as smart meters, GPS trackers, asset monitors, remote sensors, and medical wearables. Built with an EAL6+ certified ST secure microcontroller,it is designed with security at its core. It is compatible with the GSMA IoT SAFE applet, facilitating the addition of secure element features for end-to-end communication and supporting scalable security by design for IoT device creators.
“By leveraging the new GSMA specification, our ST4SIM-300 embedded SIM for IoT solution enhances flexibility, simplifies network provider switching, and streamlines the management of large numbers of connected devices,” said Agostino Vanore, Edge Authentication and M2M Cellular Marketing Manager at STMicroelectronics. “In a more connected and secure world, it will enable seamless asset tracking globally, connect smart devices to the cloud, and securely handle data from billions of devices, supporting healthcare, smart infrastructures, cities, factories, and homes.”
