A new series of PWM controller ICs optimised for ACDC power supplies in industrial applications. Supporting various power semiconductors, including MOSFETs, IGBTs, and SiC devices, these ICs offer enhanced reliability with self-recovery UVLO functions and are designed for long-term supply.

ROHM has introduced a new lineup of external FETtype controller ICs featuring PWM current control mode, tailored for ACDC power supplies used in various industrial applications. Mass production has commenced for four models designed to support a wide array of power semiconductors. These include the BD28C55FJLB for lowvoltage MOSFETs, BD28C54FJLB for medium to highvoltage MOSFETs, BD28C57LFJLB for IGBTs, and BD28C57HFJLB for SiC MOSFETs.

Despite improvements in the global semiconductor supply, demand for semiconductor components in industrial power supplies still outpaces supply, especially for PWM controller ICs. With few manufacturers producing these ICs, chronic shortages persist, prompting requests for new product development. The company’s new PWM controller ICs aim to alleviate this shortage by meeting industrial market standards for packaging and performance. Different semiconductors in power supply circuits require varying undervoltage lockout (UVLO) levels to prevent thermal runaway during voltage drops. The solution includes four variants, each offering distinct UVLO levels optimized for specific semiconductors.

The key specifications include:

  • Input voltage range: 6.9V to 28.0V
  • Circuit current: up to 2.0mA
  • Maximum startup current: 75µA
  • Maximum duty cycle: 50%
  • Packaged in standard SOPJ8
  • Pintopin compatible with standard ICs
  • Self recovery UVLO function with ±5% threshold voltage accuracy
  • Improved reliability compared to standard controllers with ±10% accuracy

These ICs are designed for longterm supply, ensuring reliable operation for industrial equipment with extended lifespans. The company plans to expand the lineup to include highvoltage MOSFET and GaN device drivers, with additional variants offering a 100% duty cycle under development. Currently, these ICs are available for purchase through online distributors at a price of $2.10 per unit (excluding tax).
