Featuring an integrated controller for easy installation and reduced space requirements, these sensors cover a measurement range from 25mm to 400mm, suitable for dispenser control and predictive maintenance applications.

Panasonic Industry introduces the HL-G2 series, expanding its laser measurement sensor range with high-accuracy sensors. The series offers a resolution of up to 0.5µm, a linearity of ±0.05% F.S., and a high-speed sampling rate of 100µs.  The integrated controller in the series simplifies product selection, reducing installation time, space requirements, and warehouse storage needs. The sensors in this series have a measurement range from 25mm to 400mm, making them suitable for high-accuracy tasks such as dispenser control. The company highlights another application for the series: predictive maintenance. This approach helps machine builders reduce downtimes and enhance effectiveness.

The key specification include:

  • Resolution:0.5µm,1.5µm,2.5µm,4µm and 15µm
  • Linearity: ± 0.075% F.S.
  • Temperature characteristics:0.03% F.S./°C
  • Supply voltage:24V DC ±10%, including 10% ripple (P-P)
  • Power consumption:150mA (at 24V DC supply voltage)

The sensors inspect machine parts, such as the blade of a cutting tool, and continuously measure blade thickness. If the thickness falls below a predefined value, it indicates the need to change the blade to prevent poor cutting results. The series also supports manufacturer-independent communication via EtherNet/IP and outputs measurement data directly in digital format, reducing the risk of errors associated with converting analog values to digital. This sensor series can be used to check the distance to a workpiece for control purposes, offering high-speed sampling for smoother equipment control. It measures distance from four points and directly outputs numerical values for adjusting the workpiece in X, Y, and Z directions.

They rival higher-category displacement sensors due to their optimized devices, optical system, mechanisms, and algorithm. Additionally, they come with an OLED display for excellent visibility and an all-in-one unit with a built-in controller, which reduces installation space and costs. The series includes a communication type with a built-in unit that easily connects via Ethernet and an analog output type suitable for applications requiring constant sensor data acquisition. The PC-based “Configuration Tool” software, free to download, allows easy configuration of multiple units simultaneously. Settings can be made in real time while checking actual data, reducing adjustment time.
