Silanna Semiconductor has launched an evaluation board for 100W fast charger applications, focusing on sustainability, efficiency, and unparalleled performance, perfect for USB-PD and QC fast chargers.
Silanna Semiconductor has unveiled an evaluation board to aid engineers in rapidly developing and testing 100W end-to-end fast charger applications. The board is centred around the company’s CO2 smart power family, consisting of wide-voltage, high-frequency point-of-load converters. The CO2 Smart Power concept emphasises continuous innovation to produce increasingly efficient products that contribute to sustainability through reduced energy consumption and enhanced performance. The brand is synonymous with optimal performance, offering best-in-class power density and efficiency across various applications, including chargers, travel adaptors, and industrial and appliance power.
The SZDL3105BB-EVB02 buck converter design is configured for a 5 V to 20 V at5 A output. It integrates all necessary connections to properly test and evaluate the efficiency and other performance metrics of the board fully-integrated DC/DC converter. Operating at a switching speed of 667 kHz, the converter measures just 4 mm x 4mm yet delivers up to 5 A and 100 W. It features an extremely low operating power dissipation that enables low no-load power, an important specification for regulatory certification.
The key features include:
- Programmable switching frequency up to 2 MHz
- 95% Peak Efficiency as shipped
- Pre-bias startup with a programmable soft-start time
- Ultra-compact 4 mm x 4 mm package
A range of compatible daughter boards ensures rapid configuration of various USB-Power Delivery (PD) and Quality control (QC) charging cases. Internal and external feedback resistor divider flexibility supports the custom design. In contrast, a momentary internal feedback path allows for clean and well-controlled start-up operation until external USB port controllers can bias themselves and smoothly control the output voltage.
The evaluation board is designed for applications including USB-PD, QC2/3/4 DC/DC Converters, aligning with the company’s goal to create the smallest, lightest, high-power USB-PD and QC fast chargers within narrow time-to-market frames. Pre-configured for inputs ranging from 7.5 V to 24 V, the board can be assessed as a general-purpose point of load (POL) application or with a USB port controller. Including this evaluation board and related daughter, boards accelerate the assessment of the company’s leading buck converters, cutting the time from initial design and prototyping to final production.
