MaxLinear has introduced three new quad RS-485 serial receivers—MxL83411, MxL83433, and MxL83434—designed to ensure reliable communication in challenging industrial environments. These products offer 12 variations with data rates of 10Mbps or 32Mbps and come in two compact package options, broadening MaxLinear’s portfolio of half-duplex RS-485 transceivers.

The new receivers deliver exceptional performance, incorporating industry-leading ESD and EFT protection, wide supply voltage compatibility, and support for high common-mode and bus voltage levels. This ensures robust communication, even in the presence of environmental stressors.

Key features include:

  • High Performance: Supports up to 32Mbps data rates with low propagation delay and good pulse symmetry.
  • System-Level Protection: With bus pins designed to withstand ±4kV EFT and ±12kV ESD per IEC 61000 standards, these devices ensure long-term reliability.
  • Wide Voltage Supply: Operable across 3.0V to 5.5V, the receivers adapt seamlessly to varying system requirements and simplify product qualification.
  • High Common Mode and Input Voltage Tolerance: Supporting up to ±15V common mode and ±25V input voltage, the receivers enhance reliability over long distances and reduce downtime.
  • Extended Temperature Range: Operational from -40°C to +125°C, these receivers are ideal for extreme environments.
  • Multiprotocol Capability: They can handle RS-485/422, RS-232, TTL, CMOS, LVTTL, and LVCMOS signals, enabling versatile applications.

Dr. Amit Bavisi, Vice President and General Manager of the Analog Mixed-Signal BU at MaxLinear, highlighted the critical role of these receivers in Industrial IoT (IIoT). “Edge AI inference in IIoT devices demands precise, real-time data for tasks like anomaly detection and prediction. Our quad receivers enable higher data throughput with fewer components, ensuring reliable operation in harsh conditions,” he stated.

Available now in RoHS-compliant NSOIC-16 and TSSOP-16 packages, the MxL83411, MxL83433, and MxL83434 come with evaluation boards and samples, ensuring ease of adoption for industrial applications.
