Infineon Technologies AG has launched the MOTIX TLE9140EQW gate driver IC, designed for brushless DC motors in the robust 24/48 V market. The TLE9140 is specifically engineered for automotive motor control applications that require voltage ranges from 24 V to a maximum of 72 V, demanding higher system reliability and accelerated switching performance.

It is suitable for a wide range of users across various industries. Automotive engineers and manufacturers can utilize it in motor control applications such as pumps, fans, and HVAC systems within vehicles. It is also suitable for electric vehicle designers for use in light electric vehicles like eBikes and eScooters, due to its robust safety features and high voltage capabilities. Additionally, it serves the needs of industrial equipment manufacturers, particularly in the commercial, construction, and agricultural sectors, where reliable and efficient motor control is critical. Electronic designers and system integrators will also find this IC beneficial, given its compatibility with common microcontrollers and advanced integration features like SPI communication and extensive diagnostic capabilities. This makes it a valuable component in the development of consumer electronics and industrial machinery alike.

The IC features an active low-side (LS) freewheeling function to handle overvoltage scenarios and incorporates a comprehensive suite of diagnostic and protection features, including timeout-watchdog, drain-source monitoring, overvoltage, undervoltage, cross-current, and over-temperature protections, as well as off-state diagnostics.

“Our new motor gate driver IC allows customers to easily scale their existing 12 V MOTIX TLE987x and TLE989x motor control designs to 24 V or 48 V systems”, says Andreas Doll, Senior Vice President, and General Manager Smart Power at Infineon. “The TLE9140EQW enables the reuse of hardware and software designs, allowing our customers to shorten their time-to-market and optimize their development costs when moving to 24/48 V systems.”
