Designed for ADAS and autonomous driving, this high-resolution sensor delivers superior image quality, low-light performance, and LED flicker mitigation in all lighting conditions, it also features the new ultra-compact a-CSP+ package technology.
OMNIVISION has introduced its latest innovation, the OX12A10 12-megapixel (MP) CMOS image sensor featuring TheiaCel technology. This advanced sensor is designed to enhance automotive safety by offering superior image quality and resolution, regardless of lighting conditions. It is specifically suited for high-performance front machine vision cameras used in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving (AD) applications.
As the highest-resolution sensor in the company’s 2.1-micron (µm) TheiaCel family, the sensor builds on the success of its predecessors, the 8MP OX08D10 and 5MP OX05D10. TheiaCel technology integrates next-generation lateral overflow integration capacitors (LOFIC) with the company’s proprietary DCG high dynamic range (HDR) technology, eliminating LED flicker and providing superior image performance in diverse lighting environments. This technology achieves a wider dynamic range than previous automotive HDR systems.
The key features are:
- Features a 1/1.43-inch optical format
- First, to incorporate a-CSP+ package technology
- Compact design measuring 12450µm x 8100µm
- Smaller than traditional ball grid array (BGA) packages
According to Dr. Paul Wu, head of automotive product marketing at OMNIVISION, the OX12A10 combines all the essential features needed for next-gen driving solutions, including high resolution, low-light performance, LED flicker mitigation (LFM), compact size, energy efficiency, and high-temperature durability. “Our 5MP and 8MP sensors cater to mainstream vehicles, while the OX12A10 is designed to meet the demanding requirements of future ADAS and AD systems,” Dr. Wu added.
It is currently available for sampling, with mass production expected to begin in Q3 2025. For further details, click here.
