Featuring advanced gate driver technology for superior protection and high efficiency, ideal for high-switching applications, it minimizes power loss and simplifies design.

Infineon Technologies is expanding its 7th generation TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 product line by introducing the CIPOS Maxi Intelligent Power Module (IPM) series, designed specifically for low-power motor drives. This new IM12BxxxC1 series is built upon the advanced TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 1200 V technology and features the rapid diode EmCon 7, delivering superior control and performance. The series leverages a micro-pattern trench design that significantly reduces losses, enhances efficiency, and increases power density.  The key specifications are:

  • Current ratings:10 A to 20 A
  • Power ratings:Up to 4.0 kW
  • Cross-conduction prevention
  • Allowable negative VS potential up to -11 V for signal transmission at VBS=15 V

The product lineup includes three variants: IM12B10CC1, IM12B15CC1, and IM12B20EC1. These IPMs are housed in a compact DIP 36x23D package, which integrates multiple power and control components, thereby increasing reliability, optimising PCB space, and reducing overall system costs. This makes the series the smallest package for 1200 V IPMs while offering the highest power density and performance within its category. The series is particularly well-suited for low-power motor drives in applications such as motors, pumps, fans, heat pumps, and outdoor fans in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The new IPM series is housed in an isolated dual-in-line moulded package, providing excellent thermal performance and electrical isolation. It also complies with stringent EMI and overload protection standards, making it ideal for demanding design environments.

The series includes a UL-certified temperature thermistor for independent thermal management. It also integrates a 6-channel SOI gate driver, which includes built-in dead time to protect against transients, under-voltage lockout across all channels, and over-current shutdown. With a multifunction pin, the module offers high design flexibility for various applications, while the low-side emitter pins facilitate easy phase current monitoring and control. Perfect for HVAC systems, pumps, fan motors, and low-power drives, accelerating time-to-market.
