Integrating microcontrollers is revolutionising automotive technology, enabling smarter, safer driving through enhanced machine-learning capabilities.
Autonomous and automated driving are trends in the automotive sector, alongside electrification. Artificial intelligence (AI) is crucial for these trends, enabling vehicles to detect pedestrians, analyse driver behaviour, recognize traffic signs, and control trajectories, among other applications. Edge AI supports this technology, as autonomous driving relies on AI systems with machine learning and processors that can process large data volumes concurrently, securely, and in real time. Imagimob, a subsidiary of Infineon Technologies AG, has enhanced its automotive machine learning offerings by incorporating these capabilities into Infineon’s Automotive ASIL-D certified MCUs, including the AURIX TM TC3x and AURIX TC4x models.
Imagimob Studio allows developers to build machine learning (ML) models for Edge deployment on Infineon’s AURIX MCUs. The process begins with the construction of ML models within Imagimob Studio. After completing an AI model, users can deploy it directly to the MCUs via the platform. They are guided through a series of steps to deploy the code, making it easier to implement machine learning on MCUs and to develop ML models. Imagimob Studio also provides a sample project for siren detection, which showcases the process of model creation and deployment. This example helps users learn to develop acoustic models using AURIX MCUs and a microphone shield. Additionally, Imagimob has introduced new regression models that estimate remaining battery life, health status, and usage time.
“The integration of secured and dependable AI capabilities into microcontroller families is crucial for advancing autonomous driving applications in the automotive industry,” said Thomas Boehm, Senior Vice President of Microcontrollers at Infineon. “We are proud that our AURIX microcontrollers are now supported by Imagimob Studio, making them accessible to developers worldwide. This highlights our role as a leading innovator in the industry.”
“With the integration of AURIX into our Imagimob Studio, we are bringing full machine learning (ML) compatibility and capabilities to the automotive sector,” said Alexander Samuelsson, CTO of Imagimob. “All the use cases we support with our platform are now also available for Infineon’s AURIX microcontrollers.”
