MCU Family With High-Performance Analog Integration

Microchip Technology has unveiled the PIC32A family, a new line of 32-bit microcontrollers (MCUs) designed to meet the growing demand for high-performance, math-intensive applications. Expanding Microchip’s 32-bit MCU portfolio, the PIC32A series provides cost-effective solutions for industries including automotive, industrial, consumer electronics, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), and medical technology.

  • High-speed analog integration with a 200 MHz CPU reduces external component requirements.
  • 12-bit ADCs with up to 40 Msps sampling rate for precise signal conversion.
  • 5 ns high-speed comparators for rapid signal processing.
  • 100 MHz GBWP operational amplifiers enhance analog performance.
  • Optimized for efficient edge sensing and advanced signal processing.
  • Balances high performance with cost-effective system design.

To enhance security and reliability, MCUs include built-in hardware safety features such as Error Code Correction (ECC) on Flash and RAM, Memory Built-In Self-Test (MBIST), I/O integrity monitoring, clock supervision, immutable secure boot, and Flash access control. These features ensure robust and secure operation in embedded control applications.

A 64-bit Floating Point Unit (FPU) provides efficient handling of data-intensive mathematical operations, facilitating model-based design and accelerating execution in high-performance sensor interfacing and data processing applications. The MCUs are supported by the MPLAB XC32 Compiler, MPLAB Harmony software framework, and development platforms, including the dsPIC33A Curiosity Platform and PIC32AK1216GC41064 General-Purpose DIM. The Curiosity Board features mikroBUS and Xplained Pro interfaces for expansion with BIST XPRO kits, sensors, and Click boards.

“PIC32A MCUs enhance our 32-bit portfolio with an optimal balance of cost efficiency, performance, and high-speed analog peripherals,” said Rod Drake, Corporate Vice President of Microchip’s MCU business unit. “By integrating advanced functionalities, these MCUs minimize external component requirements, simplifying system design while delivering high performance.”
