With unmatched power efficiency, secure networking, and integrated Matter protocol support, these compact modules simplify design and cut costs, unlocking possibilities for smart homes, healthcare, and industrial applications.
Silicon Labs has unveiled the SiWx917Y ultra-low-power Wi-Fi® 6 and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) 5.4 modules. As an extension of the Series 2 platform, these modules are engineered to simplify the development and certification processes for Wi-Fi 6 devices. They offer unparalleled power efficiency, secure connectivity, and a robust application processor, streamlining design, reducing costs, and accelerating time-to-market for device manufacturers. Pre-certified for global regulatory compliance and equipped with an optimised antenna, the SiWx917Y modules eliminate the need for RF optimisation and certification, cutting development hurdles.
Targeting applications such as smart homes, healthcare, industrial sensors, and asset tracking, the modules offer a compact 16 x 21 x 2.3 mm package with an impressive feature set:
- Ultra-low power Wi-Fi 6 with intelligent power management.
- The dual-core architecture features an ARM Cortex-M4 application processor and a wireless network processor.
- Support for the Matter protocol over Wi-Fi.
- Integrated antenna and pre-certifications for global RF standards.
- Multiple configurations for design flexibility.
The module’s power management supports connected sleep mode with just 20μA current using Target Wake Time (TWT) and a 60-second keep-alive interval, enabling multi-year battery life for IoT devices like smart locks, cameras, and thermostats. The integrated ARM Cortex-M4 processor, large memory, and peripherals make advanced edge processing possible.
It supports two modes: SiWG917Y for SoC mode, allowing applications to run directly on the module, and SiWN917Y for NCP mode, where communication functions are handled by the module while applications run on an external MCU. Manufacturers require secure, efficient, and easy-to-integrate solutions with IoT devices growing by a billion units annually. The modules address these demands, combining advanced connectivity with energy efficiency. The modules are now available for purchase.
“Wi-Fi for IoT has evolved, creating immense opportunities for innovation,” said Irvind Ghai, Vice President of Wi-Fi Solutions at Silicon Labs. “Our SiWx917Y modules enable manufacturers to integrate state-of-the-art connectivity into their devices effortlessly, allowing them to focus on differentiation and reduce development costs.”
