Infineon introduces a high-performance microcontroller enabling software-defined vehicle advancements ‘AURIX TC4Dx’.
Infineon Technologies AG , Munish, Germany has launched the ‘AURIX TC4Dx’ microcontroller (MCU), marking a significant advancement in the automotive industry. Developed using 28nm technology, the MCU combines cutting-edge performance with high-speed connectivity, addressing key requirements in modern electric/electronic (E/E) architectures. This MCU is designed to support developments in virtualization, artificial intelligence, functional safety, and cybersecurity, forming the backbone of software-defined vehicles.
With applications in critical automotive systems—such as vehicle motion control, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and chassis control—the MCU is positioned as a crucial component for automotive manufacturers and OEMs focused on enhancing vehicle performance, safety, and comfort. “Microcontrollers like our new MCU are the backbone of software-defined vehicles. They are essential to further improve vehicle performance, safety, and comfort,” stated Thomas Boehm, senior vice president for microcontrollers, Infineon. This microcontroller is expected to reduce time-to-market and system costs, offering automakers and tech integrators an efficient solution for advanced E/E architectures.
A notable feature of the MCU is its multi-core architecture, which includes a 500MHz TriCore with six cores, each supporting lock-steps to enhance functional safety. This setup allows the MCU to achieve high processing speeds and reliability. Additionally, the MCU’s parallel processing unit (PPU) supports embedded AI applications, making it suitable for complex tasks like motor control and battery management.
In terms of connectivity, it includes networking accelerators to improve Ethernet and CAN communications and supports 5 Gbit/s Ethernet, PCIe, 10Base-T1S, and CAN-XL. These interfaces ensure high data throughput and versatility for evolving vehicle architectures.
Functional safety and cybersecurity remain pivotal in this latest launch, meeting ISO26262 ASIL-D standards for automotive safety and supporting the latest cybersecurity standards, including post-quantum cryptography, in line with ISO/SAE21434.
Currently in its sampling phase, the AURIX TC4Dx is anticipated to enter mass production in 2025, positioning it as a foundational element in future vehicle technology. For more details you may click here.
