  • Espressif Systems’ latest module provides developers the ease to build Alexa-compatible devices
  • It is based on the company’s SiP device that improves control efficiency

Espressif Systems has launched a new wireless module called ESP32-PICO-V3-ZERO, also named “Alexa Connect Kit (ACK) Module with Espressif”. This module provides seamless, out-of-box connectivity to ACK cloud services, as well as the easy implementation of features such as Alexa control, Frustration-Free Setup and Amazon Dash Replenishment for connected devices. Now users can easily, quickly and economically create products that can be widely used in the field of smart homes.

The ESP32-PICO-V3-ZERO module is based on the ESP32-PICO-V3, a System-in-Package (SiP) device integrating the ESP32-V3 SoC, a 4 MB SPI flash, a crystal oscillator, filter capacitors and an RF matching network. This integration brings down the complexity of the supply chain and improves control efficiency, with assembly and testing done at SiP level. At the core of ESP32-PICO-V3-ZERO is the ESP32-V3 SoC, which has an Xtensa® dual-core 32-bit LX6 microprocessor with integrated 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity. This SoC is designed with TSMC’s 40 nm low-power technology.

Reliable connection to Amazon services

The module provides full support for Amazon’s Alexa Connect Kit (ACK) that makes it easy for device manufacturers to build products that connect quickly and easily to Amazon services. The ESP32-PICO-V3-ZERO comes with a default firmware that enables customers to connect their devices to Alexa and the Internet without worrying about managing cloud services, writing an Alexa Skill, or developing a complex firmware or companion phone applications.

ESP32-PICO-V3-ZERO is available in a compact size and small-footprint of 16 mm x 23 mm x 2.3 mm and is pre-certified for regulatory certifications such as FCC, CE, SRRC, IC and RCM.

Teo Swee Ann, Espressif’s founder and CEO, said, “In the current era, which has brought to the spotlight device interconnectivity and voice-controlled technologies, Espressif works together with Amazon, in order to offer affordable solutions that reduce the complexity of building connected devices. The ACK Module with Espressif is one such solution, enabling our customers to build and manage connected devices with ease”.
