Various surface-mount component packaging helps designers to create circuit boards with densely packed surface-mount components, as a result of simplifying assembly and mounting. There are various packaging standards like vertical surface-mount packages which can be mounted perpendicular to the seating plane and horizontal surface-mount package that is intended to mount horizontally to the PCB plane.
Type-C USB standard is very widely accepted and many devices and gadgets nowadays feature type-C charging. Depending on the design, horizontal or vertical mount packaging can be used.Â
CUI Devices announced their vertically mounted, type C power-only USB receptacle, UJC-VP-3-SMT-TR. The type-C USB receptacle is solely for the charging function and the firm claims that it is a very cost-effective solution for such designs. It is compatible with any type-C plug for enhanced accessibility.
The UJC-VP-3-SMT-TR is a 6-pin USB Type C receptacle that can deliver up to 60 W of power with a 3 A current rating and 20V DC voltage rating. CUI Devices claims that their vertical mount USB type-C receptacle offers high reliability up to 10,000 mating cycles, reflow solder compatibility, and an operating temperature range from -25 to 85°C.
