The new Raspberry Pi board comes with enhanced features in a compact form factor for carrying out a range of IoT projects

Taking forward the computing power and affordability that Raspberry Pi Zero presented, its upgraded version, the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W offers enhanced features for a range of smart home applications and other IoT projects – all in the same 65mm × 30mm small form factor.

Built around the Broadcom BCM2710A1 SoC with 512MB of LPDDR2 SDRAM, the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W incorporates a quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A53 CPU, clocked at 1GHz. At the heart of the board is a Raspberry Pi RP3A0 system-in-package (SiP). The upgraded processor provides Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W with 40% more single-threaded performance and 5x more multi-threaded performance than the original single-core Raspberry Pi Zero. An in-built wireless LAN with improved RF compliance gives you more flexibility when designing with Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W.

Like the original Raspberry Pi Zero, the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W features a mini HDMI port, a micro USB port and a micro USB power port. A Raspberry Pi USB Power Supply powers the device, which closely resembles the Raspberry Pi 4 PSU. The new power supply has a USB micro-B connector in place of the USB-C connector for a slightly reduced peak current rating of 2.5A.

Key Specifications are:

  • Broadcom BCM2710A1, quad-core 64-bit SoC (Arm Cortex-A53 @ 1GHz)
  • 512MB LPDDR2 SDRAM
  • 2.4GHz IEEE 802.11b/g/n wireless LAN, Bluetooth 4.2, BLE
  • 1 × USB 2.0 interface with OTG
  • HAT-compatible 40 pin I/O header footprint
  • MicroSD card slot
  • Mini HDMI port
  • Composite video and reset pin solder points
  • CSI-2 camera connector
  • H.264, MPEG-4 decode (1080p30); H.264 encode (1080p30)
  • OpenGL ES 1.1, 2.0 graphics
  • 5V DC 2.5A input power
  • -20°C to +70°C operating temperature range

To dissipate heat, the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W uses thick internal copper layers to conduct heat away from the processor, thus offering higher sustained performance.

The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is now available in the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United States, Canada, and Hong Kong with new countries to be added soon. The board’s production will remain so until at least January 2028.
