MediaTek has released its first mmWave 5G chipset, the Dimensity 1050 system-on-chip [SoC]. The 5G chip can provide connectivity to the next generation of 5G smartphones, displays, gaming consoles, etc. The Dimensity 1050 combines mmWave and sub-6GHz  technology to provide good connectivity even in densely populated areas. The chipset is powered by an octa-core CPU, it integrates an Arm Cortex-A78 CPUs and the Arm Mali-G610 graphics engine. It also supports True Dual 5G SIM (5G SA + 5G SA) and Dual VoNR.

According to the company, the Dimensity 1050 can deliver the speeds and capacity required to provide smartphone users with an incredible experience, even in some of the most densely populated areas. It supports 3CC carrier aggregation on the sub-6 (FR1) spectrum and 4CC carrier aggregation on the mmWave (FR2) spectrum, the Dimensity 1050 will be capable of delivering up to 53 per cent faster speeds and greater reach to smartphones compared to LTE + mmWave aggregation alone.

“The Dimensity 1050, and its combination of sub-6GHz and mmWave technologies, will deliver end-to-end 5G experiences, uninterrupted connectivity and superior power efficiency to meet everyday user demands,” said CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of Wireless Communications Business Unit at MediaTek. “With faster, more reliable connections, and advanced camera technology this chip delivers powerful features to help device makers to differentiate their smartphone product lines.”

The chipset also offers 5G optimizations along with Wi-Fi optimizations. The 5G chipset utilizes the company’s own HyperEngine 5.0 gaming technology, which ensures lower-latency connections with the new tri-band – 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz. The chipset also supports for super-fast 144Hz Full HD display using MediaTek’s MiraVision 760. It also offers excellent noise reduction for superb low light imaging and features advanced AI camera actions. The 5G chipset also allows for dual HDR video capture that lets users simultaneously stream with both the front and rear cameras.

The company says that the smartphones powered by the Dimensity 1050 will be available in the third quarter of 2022
