Small dimension 5W DC/DC converters claim to provide a single regulated 5VDC output.
RECOM has launched 5W DC/DC converters in miniature packages with 1” x 1” footprint and 4:1 input. The company claims the convertor is cost-effective and provides a regulated supply of 5V output rated at 1A with 18-36VDC input. The operation claims to be from -40°C to 110°C ambient temperature with derating. According to the press release issued by the company, the part is short-circuit protected, and features include an input under-voltage lockout. An On/Off control is also included with a standby current draw of typically just 3mA. The converter claims to operate at 5000m altitude and pollution degree 2 (PD2) environment. The combination of wide input and temperature operating ranges with high power density claims to be demanding for medical and industrial applications as per the company.
The press release highlights that the DC/DC converter is certified for ‘basic’ grade isolation and meets EMC standard Class B for input conducted noise with a simple input filter. Additionally, the mean time between failures (MTBF) is over 1.4MHrs at 25°C. The regulated converter claims to have an input range of 9-36VDC and a single regulated 5VDC output.
Matthew Dauterive, DC/DC Product Manager of RECOM, comments, “The wide input, high power density and isolation rating of these parts make them ideal for high-end applications such as medical and industrial, where cost is also a factor.”
