SmartBond DA1470x from Renesas is a new Bluetooth Low Energy System-on-Chip (SoC). The SoC is currently the only BLE solution in the market to feature a 2D Graphics processor, Voice Activity Detector and Power Management unit in a single chip. The SoC is powered by an ARM Cortex M33 as the main processor and an ARM Cortex-M0+ as a sensor node controller.
According to the company, the SmartBond DA1470x Family is the only solution in the Bluetooth LE space to integrate a power management unit, a hardware voice activity detector (VAD), and a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) and Bluetooth LE connectivity all into a single chip. The small form factor and high level of integration results in achieving lower costs in Bill of Materials (BoM), thus, enabling designers to make compact, cost-effective system solutions.
“The DA1470x family expands on our successful strategy of integrating more functions, including greater processing power, expanded memory and improved power modules, along with VAD for always-on wake and command word detection,” said Sean McGrath, Vice President of the Connectivity and Audio Business Division in Renesas’ IoT, Industrial and Infrastructure Business Unit. “This feature-packed SoC product family enables developers to push the boundaries of connected consumer and industrial applications and future-proof their IoT products to fit the needs of multiple applications while optimizing their bill of materials.”
The SoC features a multicore system with ARM Cortex M33 and ARM Cortex processors for the main application and for the sensor node controller respectively. It has a configurable MAC supporting Bluetooth LE 5.2 and proprietary 2.4 GHz protocols. The SmartBondDA1470x Family has already proven its mantel and has been employed in products such as the Xiaomi Mi band 7. The SoC also features ultra-low-power, always-on audio processing. The product can be used in a wide variety of applications which includes wearables like smartwatches and other healthcare devices, it can also be used in home appliances with displays and for industrial automation and security systems, etc.
