Developed with printed solar cell technology, the device continuously tracks CO2 levels without needing external power or battery replacements.

Reef IoT announces the launch of AIR-sense-IQ, a photovoltaic CO2 monitor designed to improve indoor air quality. Developed as part of the ATiP project at Swansea University, the device uses Epishine’s printed solar cells to power itself through indoor lighting, eliminating the need for external power sources or battery replacements.

The monitor is designed for continuous CO2 monitoring in indoor environments, particularly workspaces, where maintaining air quality is important. The device captures energy from standard indoor lighting, enabling it to operate without regular maintenance. It provides live air quality data through an integrated CO2 sensor and alerts users when CO2 levels rise above recommended thresholds. This feature helps maintain a healthier indoor environment.

Once installed on a wall, the device optimises its position to maximise exposure to indoor light, ensuring it stays powered in typical office settings. Its ability to run solely on indoor lighting makes it an efficient tool for maintaining air quality without increasing energy consumption.

The device is powered by the company’s organic printed solar cells, which are flexible and designed to function in low-light environments. This makes it suitable for modern workspaces where sustainability and energy efficiency are key considerations. The device’s ability to operate without the need for constant maintenance aligns with workplace goals to prioritize employee well-being while minimizing environmental impact. AIR-sense-IQ will be available for purchase in mid-2025.
