Ideal for automotive, aerospace, and medical testing, these modules are designed to simulate resistive sensors and faults, enhancing test coverage for various applications.
Pickering Interfaces has introduced a new family of PXI and PXIe programmable resistor modules, marking the first in its range capable of handling up to 2A and 200V (limited by maximum power). These new models, 40-254 (PXI) and 42-254 (PXIe), are part of the company’s expanding lineup of medium to high-power resistor modules, offering up to 15W of power handling per channel. These modules follow the previous models providing a compact solution for applications requiring 1 or 2 resistance channels. The 42-254 series is the first medium-power module available in PXIe format.
The key specifications include:
- Available resistance range: 1Ω to 395kΩ
- Resolution options: 0.125Ω to 8Ω
- Power handling options: 2.5W, 5W, and 10W
- Connection type: 9-pin D-type connector
Programmable resistors are essential for simulating resistive sensors and variable resistors when testing devices like electronic controllers.. These modules can simulate short or open circuits to mimic conditions caused by faulty wiring or sensors, improving test coverage. Control is made easy via software, where users can request a specific resistance value, and the module automatically sets the closest available value. A calibration cable assembly can be used for long-term accuracy, enabling simple calibration through a digital multimeter (DMM) to verify the resistor channels.
These resistor modules are available in 28 standard configurations, including narrow, medium, and wide resistance ranges, with options for 1 or 2 channels. Depending on the variant, they consist of a motherboard or a combination of a mother and daughterboard, using resistor chains switched by two-pole electromechanical relays.
For high-density, lower-power applications, Pickering offers an alternative with the model 40/42-297A high-density precision resistor modules. These new modules are designed for automotive, aerospace, medical, and functional test applications. All Pickering products include a three-year warranty and long-term support.
