The Solderable System on Module (SoM) offers dual Gigabit Ethernet, dual USB ports, essential I/Os for versatile connectivity, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 capabilities.
The iWave has launched a Solderable System on Module (SoM) with i.MX 9 applications processor. The company claims that this SoM offers a durable and space-saving form factor while providing a wide range of interfaces for versatile connectivity. According to the press release issued by the company, the SoM offers both hardware and software compatibility, enabling seamless integration and scalability based on specific requirements and applications. The SoM claims to deliver a well-balanced combination of security, performance, and scalability, making it an excellent foundation for cost-effective Linux edge devices. Additionally, it provides a range of interfaces, including dual Gigabit Ethernet, dual Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports, and essential Input/Outputs, making it suitable for deployment in various applications such as smart factories, smart homes, medical devices, and smart metering.
The press release highlights that the SoM is built on the 45mm x 45mm Open Standard Module (OSM) Size-L standard and provides 662 contacts, resulting in the highest pin-to-area ratio. By enabling direct soldering of the SoM onto the carrier card, it ensures exceptional durability and is particularly well-suited for products susceptible to vibrations. According to the company’s claim, the SoM is built on 64-bit Advanced Reduced Instruction Set Computer (RISC) Machine (ARM) architecture and features Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 capabilities.
“The i.MX 91 applications processor family from NXP provides an ideal mix of high performance, pricing, and security; fit for entry-level Linux edge processing solutions for applications such as EV Charging Stations, Industrial Gateways, and HMI Displays,” said Immanuel Rathinam, Vice-President of System on Modules Unit at iWave. ”The i.MX 9x family of i.MX 91 and i.MX 93 provides customers scalability with reduced development cost and time to market and provides consumers.”
Some of the key features of SoM include:
- i.MX 91 CPU with 64-bit ARMv8.2-A Architecture
- 2GB LPDDR4 Memory
- 16GB eMMC Flash(Expandable)
- Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 & IEEE802.15.4 Connectivity
- Supports 1 x Cortex-A55 cores
- Supports 2 × 1Gbps Ethernet (1 with TSN)
