KYOCERA AVX introduces 9159-800 Series, pioneering compact, dual-entry card-edge connectors for various industrial applications

KYOCERA AVX, U. S., has introduced the 9159-800 Series, the industry’s first dual-entry card-edge connectors, designed for maximum flexibility and space efficiency. Engineered to cater to rising cross-market demand, these connectors serve sectors including automotive, industrial manufacturing, consumer electronics, and white goods, providing engineers and product developers with a reliable solution that optimises space and maintains performance in compact electronic assemblies.

These connectors employ a compact, durable design featuring 4 to 20 high-strength beryllium copper compression contacts arranged in dual rows with a 1mm pitch, allowing easy installation without soldering. With a low above-board height of only 3.5mm, the connectors are ideal for applications with limited space. The gold-plated contacts offer excellent current-carrying capacity, supporting up to 2A per contact while maintaining low contact resistance which is essential in high-reliability applications.

Ideal applications for the connectors range from automotive infotainment and body electronics to automation equipment, sensors, light curtains, smart home systems, and major appliances. The design’s flexibility appeals to industries focused on developing advanced electronic systems that must balance compactness with durability. “Our card-edge connector products are backed by decades of cutting-edge research and development and field-proven performance in a wide variety of applications extending throughout multiple industries,” remarked Marc Actis, senior marketing manager (Interconnect), KYOCERA AVX. He emphasised that this series is uniquely positioned to meet customer demand for compact, high-performance connectors that can withstand demanding conditions.

These connectors are constructed with white, flame-retardant, halogen-free insulators and maintain high durability and temperature resistance, ranging from -40°C to +125°C, making them UL94 V-0 compliant. Their recessed mounting provides a low-profile setup, while their adaptability includes compatibility with 1.6mm-thick PCBs with gold-plated pads, rated for up to 150VACRMS or the DC equivalent, allowing versatile use across applications with varying voltage requirements.

Available through Mouser Electronics and DigiKey, the connectors are UL and RoHS compliant, supplied in tape and reel packaging for automated processing. This latest innovation reflects its commitment to advancing connector technology with reliable, versatile solutions that cater to the needs of modern industrial applications.
