SCHURTER has introduced a shock-safe, high-power capable fuse holder, pioneering compliance with the extended IEC standard.

Fusew holder

SCHURTER has launched the FXP shock-safe fuse holder specifically tailored for high-power applications. According to the company’s press release, the fuse holder can accommodate 6.3×32 fuse-links and is engineered to handle rated currents of up to 25 A (IEC) or 45 A (UL). The fuse holder is well-suited for various applications, including equipment with a three-phase supply at 400 VAC. It is also suitable for applications requiring rated currents up to 25 A according to the VDE (Verband der Elektrotechnik) standard.

What sets the FXP fuse holder apart is its high current capability, even at elevated temperatures. Typically, the IEC and UL ratings are based on standard conditions, at around +23°C (IEC) or +25°C (UL). However, when a fuse holder operates above these temperatures, its capacity decreases with rising temperatures. The company claims the fuse holder can deliver a maximum power of 4 watts even at an ambient temperature of 50°C. In comparison, other similar-sized fuse holders only achieve such values at room temperature. This characteristic provides an additional safety margin when operating under higher temperature conditions.

Some of the technical specifications of the fuse holder include:

  • Shock-Safe Category: PC2
  • Fuse-Link: 6.3 x 32 mm
  • Mounting: Panel mount, Front Side
  • Rated Voltage: 500 VAC (VDE), 600 VAC/VDC (UL/CSA)
  • Rated current: 25 A (VDE), 45 A (UL/CSA)
  • Degree of Protection: IP40
  • Admissible Ambient Air Temp.: -40 °C to 85 °C
  • Unit Weight: 26.1 g

Thanks to its snap-in mounting technology, the fuse holder is quick and easy to use. It’s Ingress Protection 40 (IP40) class makes it ideal for indoor applications. Additionally, a solder connection is available on the connection side for convenient setup. The fuse holder is designed for 600 VAC applications and offers high-rated power acceptance. It requires a tool for fuse exchange. Its unique selling proposition lies in being perfect for high-performance applications, boasting a remarkable power-to-size ratio and a robust design to handle high currents. Notably, it is the first fuse holder on the market that complies with the extended IEC standard.
