Cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) utilises secure authentication integrated circuits (ICs) to facilitate self-service custom Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), simplified in-field provisioning, and comprehensive lifecycle management for Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
In an era where interconnected Internet of Things (IoT) systems are increasingly prevalent, from smart home devices to industrial applications, the demand for robust cybersecurity has never been more critical. Addressing this need, Microchip Technology introduces the ECC608 TrustMANAGER with Kudelski IoT keySTREAM, a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution, to its Trust Platform portfolio.
It revolutionises IoT security by enabling dynamic in-field provisioning and management of security credentials via keySTREAM. Unlike traditional static certificate chains implemented during manufacturing, this innovative approach allows custom cryptographic credentials to be provisioned at the endpoint and managed by the end user, enhancing flexibility and security. It offers a comprehensive device-to-cloud solution, securing key assets end-to-end throughout a product’s lifecycle.
The key features include:
- Equipped with a secure authentication integrated circuit (IC)
- Stores and protects cryptographic keys and certificates
- Managed by keySTREAM Software as a Service (SaaS)
- Allows users to set up a self-serve root Certificate Authority (root CA)
- Enables the creation of an associated public key infrastructure (PKI)
- Facilitates in-field provisioning of devices upon their first connection
- Provides automatic activation in the user’s keySTREAM service
The solution addresses the challenge of upgrading security infrastructure in traditionally static IoT implementations, automating and scaling the process. Devices can be managed securely throughout their lifecycle, with easy ownership management and digital security key updates from the cloud. This approach streamlines supply chain processes and reduces the need for physical upgrades.
Hardy Schmidbauer, Senior Vice President of Kudelski IoT, highlights the significance of this collaboration in setting new standards for smart device security. By combining Microchip’s semiconductor technologies with Kudelski IoT’s security services, they aim to provide unparalleled protection and ease of provisioning for IoT device manufacturers. Nuri Dagdeviren, Corporate Vice President of Microchip’s Security Computing Group, emphasises the growing need for efficient device management as connected devices proliferate and security standards evolve. The partnership with Kudelski and the addition of keySTREAM to the ECC608 TrustMANAGER empower customers to manage and update IoT ecosystems effectively via cloud-based security SaaS.
The series is available starting at $0.75 each in 10,000-unit quantities. An activation fee is applied only after the first connection. For more information and purchasing, click here.
