It comes with integrated IEEE 802.15.4 radio and Bluetooth 5 (LE) connectivity, while ensuring low power consumption and secure connectivity
Enhancing their SoC portfolio to provide even greater Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, Espressif has announced to soon launch the ESP32-H2 that will come with IEEE 802.15.4 and Bluetooth 5 LE, operable in the 2.4 GHz band. This SoC will also have an integrated DC-DC converter for enabling ultra-low-power, energy-efficient operation. The inclusion of IEEE 802.15.4 will support mesh architectures with low power consumption, while the Bluetooth 5 LE connectivity will ensure support for point-to-point, broadcast and mesh communication topologies while enabling direct communication between a smartphone and an ESP32-H2-based device. With such a combination, ESP32-H2 promises to bring interoperability to smart home devices along with solutions for end-products with Wi-Fi or Thread connectivity to aid the seamless building of IoT devices for the Matter protocol.Â
Attractive Features
The ESP32-H2 has a single-core, 32-bit RISC-V microcontroller that can be clocked up to 96 MHz. It has a 256 KB SRAM and works with external flash. 26 programmable GPIOs enable support for ADC, SPI, UART, I2C, I2S, RMT, GDMA and PWM. All these enable the ESP32-H2 to achieve state-of-the-art RF performance, low power consumption and unrivalled security for smart connected devices.
Hardware security features for equipping connected devices include ECC-based secure boot, AES-128/256-XTS-based flash encryption, digital signature and an HMAC peripheral for identity protection, along with cryptographic accelerators for improved performance.
Officially Thread-Certified
Thanks to the robust and reliable support for Thread version 1.x and Zigbee 3.x, ESP32-H2 has now been officially granted the Thread Interoperability Certificate by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) for meeting all the necessary tests for compliance and interoperability with market-leading, Thread-reference implementations. Additionally, the ESP32-H2 has also been certified as a Zigbee-Compliant Platform. Both recognitions finally cement the fact that the ESP32-H2 provides users with rigorously-tested Thread and Zigbee solutions.Â
As an active member of the CSA, Espressif will continue developing and supporting the Matter protocol on ESP32-H2 to power millions of connected devices via the company’s mature IoT Development Framework (ESP-IDF).Â
