The MIA-M10 from U-blox is the world’s smallest GPS module which can be employed as a dependable, long-lasting solution for asset tracking. The MIA-M10 is an ultra-low-power Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) module, offering a power-efficient solution for size-constrained battery-powered asset tracking devices. The module is capable of receiving four GNSS constellations for maximum coverage.
According to the company, the module measures just 4.5 x 4.5 mm, which is roughly half the size of most of its competitors. The miniature form of this module allows developers to implement it in space-constrained applications, thus, further driving the adoption of positioning technology in consumer and industrial solutions. The module offers a power saver mode which can double the battery life by optimally balancing position accuracy and power consumption, thus, allowing the designers to make the system more smaller and lighter by employing a smaller energy storage system.
The MIA-M10 module offers great performance as it is capable of concurrently receiving four GNSS constellations (GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, and GLONASS) for high satellite signal availability, moreover, its enhanced RF sensitivity further improves the positioning performance for solutions operating with small antennas or in an environment with week signal strengths such as in deep urban canyons. Support for u-blox AssistNow assisted GNSS service, which delivers orbital data via the internet, cuts the time it takes the MIA-M10 to determine its initial position at a startup, allowing it to immediately track satellites without having to wait for slow satellite data downloads to complete. The ready-to-use GNSS module requires no external components, thus cutting the time and resources required for development and speeding up time to market.
“MIA-M10 is the smallest GNSS module on the market – as small as a chip design, but with all the benefits of a module. Combining the exceptional sensitivity and short acquisition times of the ultra-low-power u-Blox M10 GNSS platform, the MIA-M10 series offers a highly attractive solution for power- and size-constrained end devices, in particular in the growing wearable tracking device market,” says Kevin Truempi, Senior Product Manager, Product Center Positioning, at u-blox.
